Rain assists in extinguishing Cole County house fire

Tuesday’s storm actually helped put out a fire that destroyed a Cole County home.

According to reports from the Cole County Fire Protection District, the fire at 2205 S. Country Club Drive was called in at 11:36 a.m.

When crews arrived to the scene, the house was half engulfed in flames and smoke.

It took crews about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The homeowner reported mowing the lawn before the rains came, and the fire was determined to have started in the garage. Fire officials said it is possible a spark from the lawnmower may have been the cause.

Fire officials also said the fire spread quickly throughout the home due to the high winds from the storm. No injuries were reported while fighting the fire, and everyone got out of the home safely.
