College Softball: Cougars romp to wins

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College Cougars racked up 51 runs while sweeping a doubleheader with Harris-Stowe on Saturday.

The Cougars rolled to wins by scores of 28-0 and 23-0 to close out the regular season.

In the opener, Paxton Welch threw her second perfect game of the season to pick up the win. Welch (Helias High School) struck out six in the five-inning contest.

Allyson Metz (Jefferson City High School) had a double and two RBI for the winners.

In Game 2, Dakota Newton (Jefferson City High School) had a single, double and four RBI for Columbia.

The Cougars finish up at 25-19 overall and 15-9 in the American Midwest Conference. They will take part in the AMC Tournament later this week.
