2 arrested for Saturday shooting in JC

Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting Saturday evening in Jefferson City.

According to police reports, just before 5 p.m., officers responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the 800 block of Monroe Street, which apparently stemmed from a disturbance in that area just prior. Police began to investigate and detectives were called to the scene to begin interviewing numerous persons who had knowledge of the incident.

In the course of the investigation, police found that a total of three persons had suffered gunshot wounds, none of which were life-threatening. Detectives worked with a number of sources who had witnessed the shooting and were able to locate two suspects who police believe were responsible for shooting the victims. Those two arrested are:

1) Jordan Willis, a 18 year-old St. Louis male

2) Corey Cotton, a 17 year-old St. Louis male

Both Willis and Cotton were arrested for first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Both are currently held in the Cole County Jail pending charges.

In addition, a Jefferson City juvenile male was detained and held on suspicion of involvement with the shooting.

One handgun was recovered, and based on physical evidence is believed to have been used by one of the suspects during the shooting.

Detectives are continuing to investigate numerous leads, but are asking that anyone with information to contact police or call CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS to report information anonymously.
