Unlocked vehicle thefts continue

Jefferson City police report more thefts from unlocked vehicles occurred this week.

This time the thefts were reported in the 1500, 1600 and 1700 blocks of Haysleton Drive, as well as the 400 block of Boonville Road. The thefts are believed to have occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Since March, several thefts from unlocked vehicles have been reported, mainly in the south part of the city, and there have also been some reports in areas just outside the city limits in Cole County. Items taken in those thefts ranged from electronics to cash and a firearm.

Police are asking residents to be vigilant and lock vehicles at night. In addition, remove anything of value from your vehicle or keep those items out of plain sight.

Police also ask residents to watch for and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Anyone with any information about the thefts can contact police at 634-6400 or call CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS.
