Softball: Hawks sweep Blue Tigers

QUINCY, Ill. — After being shut out 6-0 in Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Quincy, the Lincoln softball team nearly rallied for a win in Game 2 before falling 5-4.

The Blue Tigers outhit Quincy 9-8 in Game 2, scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth before plating two in the seventh.

Spencer Silva’s two-run home run in the seventh cut Quincy’s lead to 5-4, but a flyout and a lineout ended the game.

Lincoln’s Megan Heimbaugh scored on a passed ball in the fifth and Kiley Kerr scored on Tori Nienhueser’s fielder’s choice in the sixth.

Quincy led 4-0 with Samantha Ledbetter’s three-run home run in the third and a single rune in the fourth.

Quincy added a run in the sixth to lead 5-2 heading into the seventh.

Hope McLeod had three hits for Lincoln, while Heimbaugh had two.

Sarah Westhoff (1-11) pitched all six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out four.

Kasey Bradley (3-8) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and five walks while striking out four in six innings.

Quincy pitcher Meghan Quirk (4-5) earned the win in Game 1, throwing seven shutout innings. She struck out seven, walked two and allowed three hits.

Quirk also hit solo home runs in the second and sixth innings. Ledbetter homered in the fifth for Quincy.

Madison Ragar (3-13) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one in four innings. Macie Kinsey pitched two innings of relief, giving up three runs on six hits.

Lauren Stamp, Niehueser and Kinsey each had a hit.

Lincoln fell to 5-46 with the losses while Quincy improved to 15-25.

Lincoln hosts Central Missouri today, with the doubleheader to start at 2 p.m.
