JC middle school student suspended after weapon found

A sixth-grade student at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City is facing a long-term suspension after being found to have a weapon while on school property.

According to the 911 call center log, the weapons violation was reported Tuesday morning at 8:31 a.m.

School officials would not say the specific weapon the student had, but did say it fell under classifications listed in Missouri statute 571.010.1, which shows the weapon could be anything from various types of guns, knives or brass knuckles.

Under district policy, the student could face anywhere up to a 180-day suspension to expulsion.
