Nixon orders flags at half-staff for Vogel's funeral

Gov. Jay Nixon today ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at government buildings in Cole County be lowered to half-staff to honor former state Sen. Carl Vogel on Wednesday, the day of his funeral.

Vogel, who represented Central Missouri for two terms in the state Senate from 2003 to 2010 and Cole County for six terms in the Missouri House from 1991 to 2002, died on Thursday.

“Sen. Vogel was a true public servant, not only for the constituents he represented in the General Assembly, but especially through his work over several decades as a community leader for the people of Jefferson City,” Nixon said. “The first lady and I send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Kim, their two children, and all his loved ones, and join all Missourians in celebrating his life and accomplishments.”
