Highway Patrol helicopter assists in search of suicidal man in Morgan County

A suicidal man was taken into custody in Morgan County with the help of Missouri Highway Patrol pilots.

Early Saturday morning, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Patrol’s Aircraft Division in locating a suicidal male.

The male was reported to have threatened to harm himself and fled into a wooded area near Idyll Acres Road and Missouri Route O, outside of Laurie.

Troopers in Morgan County, along with deputies of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

The Patrol’s aircraft, equipped with a ‘FLIR’ (forward-looking infrared) thermal imaging device was requested to respond.

At 1:45 a.m., Patrol pilots arrived in the area of where three gunshots were heard by responding officers.

The pilots located the subject with FLIR and were able to successfully direct deputies to the subject’s location in an overgrown area.

The male had no injuries and was taken into protective custody without further incident.

The case is being handled by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
