Scouts honor 3 leaders

Three area Boy Scout leaders from the Five Rivers District were among those honored at the annual Great Rivers Council Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

Phillip Burger, of California, Mo., was one of six recipients of the Silver Beaver Award. It is the highest honor a council can bestow on a volunteer.

Bonnie Keearns, of Holts Summit, and Mike Flanagan, of Jefferson City, received the Distinguished Commissioner Award for their work with scout units in the district.

Keearns is the district commissioner and oversees the district’s commissioner corps. Flanagan is a unit commissioner who works with three units in the district.

All three have been involved in scouting for many years and have served the district and the council in various capacities.

The Great Rivers Council provides scouting programs in 33 counties. The Five Rivers District offers those programs in the Mid-Missouri counties of Cole, Osage, Moniteau, Maries and Gasconade.
