Lincoln track sweeps team titles

LIBERTY — The men’s and women’s track teams for Lincoln rolled to titles Saturday at the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell

The Lincoln women won 10 events at the meet on their way to 165.5 points. The host school was second in the 24-team field with 71.5 points.

Venicha Baker won both the 200-meter dash (23.99) and 400-meter dash (54.78) and teamed with Adewumi Ademuwagun, Kimberly Bailey and Diana Cauldwell to take the title in the 4x100-meter relay (46.45).

Diana Cauldwell and Jhevere Hall were also double-winners, with Cauldwell claiming titles in the long jump (5.69 meters) and triple jump (12.02 meters). and Hall taking first in the 800m (2:14.31) and the 1,500-meter run (4:44.76).

Bailey won the 100-meter dash (11.96) and was third in the 200-meter dash (24.81).

Kimona Shaw was first in the 400m hurdles (1:03.00) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.51). She also teamed with Ebony Rose, Kissi-Ann Brown and Tina Coombs to win the 4x400m relay in 3:47.51.

Coombs placed second in the long jump (5.56 meters), fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.06) and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.11), while Jonelle Campbell was second in the triple jump (11.85 meters) and seventh in the high jump (1.50 meters).

Nadia Harriott was second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.40), Brown was second in the 400-meter dash (55.42), Chrisdale McCarthy was third in the 100m dash (12.17), Cauldwell was fourth in the 100m dash (12.29), Rose was fifth in the 400-meter dash (58.20) and Tajera Lawkin was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.01).

William Woods’ Madelyn Scrivner (Eldon High School) was third in the hammer throw (46.17 meters) and fifth in the discus (35.09 meters). Her teammate, Grace Young (Russellville High School), was fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:00.07).

Central Methodist’s Emily Nealley (Versailles High School) was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (19:19.69).

The Lincoln men, meanwhile, scored 140 points to win. Johnson County Community College was next in the 23-team field with 85 points.

The Blue Tigers swept the top three spots of the triple jump with Sedeekie Edie winning with a leap of 15.14 meters and Owen Smith and Orneldo Thomas tying for second at 13.83.

Edie also took the title in the long jump (7.74 meters), while Lincoln’s Tae’Mon Franklin was second (6.85 meters).

Other winners for the Blue Tigers were Roger Blake in the 200-meter dash (21.57), Roberto Smith in the 100-meter dash (10.42), Winston Edwards in the 400-meter hurdles (54.03) and Jeromia Riley in the 800-meter run (1:52.44).

Finishing second were Miguel Barton in the 400-meter dash (48.24), Stephen Rose in the 100-meter dash (10.49), Darran Hunter in the 110-meter hurdles (14.56) and Kevon Robinson in the 800-meter run (1:53.69).

Also, Stallone Watson was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.95), Alva Henry was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.06) and Hampton Mayson was eighth in the discus (42.32 meters).

In the relays, Roberto Smith, Jakiel David, Rose and Blake won the 4x100-meter relay (40.82) and the 4x400-meter team of Riley, Robinson, Henry and Edwards came in second (3:18.52).

Also at the event, Missouri S&T’s John Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) won the shot put (16.10 meters), came in third in the hammer throw (54.54 meters) and was fourth in the discus (46.03 meters).

Westminster’s Bret Robertson (California High School) was second in the javelin (53.32 meters). His teammate, Glen Teubner (Jefferson City High School), was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
