Alum to lead Jays soccer

Jefferson City didn’t have far to look to find its new boys soccer coach.

Scott Blake, a longtime assistant, was named head coach Tuesday by the school to replace Eddie Horn, who stepped down after last season.

“I look forward to building on the traditions of the program and will encourage current and future players to recognize their connection to those who came before them,” Blake said.

Blake played for the Jays in high school, then after an stint as head coach at Camdenton, returned to Jefferson City to work with Horn for the past decade.

“As a Jays soccer alum and coach for the past 10 years, I am honored to have been given this opportunity by our school and athletic department,” Blake said. “I want to thank Eddie Horn for building the soccer program over his career, he has been a mentor to me and to many Jay players over the years.”

As an alum, Blake feels a special attachment to the program.

“I look forward to building on the traditions of the program and will encourage current and future players to recognize their connection to those who came before them,” he said. “Fans can expect to see a high level of competition on our game schedule and we will play with many of the core values that have made Jays soccer what it is today.

“We have great people involved in the program and we want to expand on that for the future.”

Blake will meet soon with the returning players about the upcoming fall season.
