FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - Parents are suing a Utah school district, claiming their daughter suffered a severe leg injury during an alcohol impairment simulation exercise that involved wearing special goggles.
The suit claims 13-year-old Kylie Nielsen and her classmates were told to use the "drunk goggles" for a health class exercise at Centennial Junior High School.
The lawsuit says the goggles were designed to significantly impair vision and perception abilities to simulate drunkenness.
Andrew and Camille Nielsen of Kaysville filed the $275,000 lawsuit against the Davis School District on March 31, saying it was negligent and reckless.
Their daughter was injured in class in 2014. According to the lawsuit, Kylie Nielsen severely twisted her ankle and had multiple bone fractures.
School district spokesman Chris Williams had no immediate comment on the suit.
