Committee approves recommended appointments for Parks Commission

Two new faces will join the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission, pending approval from the full City Council.

At the Council Committee on Administration meeting Monday, committee members approved a list of recommended appointments by Mayor Carrie Tergin for several city boards and commissions, including the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Andre Grinston is being recommended to replace current commissioner Michael Couty, who is term-limited after serving three full terms on the commission.

Stu Murphy is being recommended to replace current commissioner Darryl Winegar, who no longer lives within city limits and is not eligible for reappointment after serving one full term.

Denise Chapel, current commission president, also is being recommended to be reappointed for her third term on the commission, though 4th Ward Councilman Glen Costales made a motion to replace her appointment with another candidate.

His motion died for lack of a second and all the appointments were approved by a 4-1 vote.

All Parks and Recreation Commission terms are for three years.
