MU baseball falls at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A four-run seventh inning gave No. 15 Arkansas the lead for good as the Razorbacks held off the Missouri Tigers' rally to win 7-6 on Friday.

Missouri (15-13, 0-7 Southeastern Conference) led 3-0 after two innings, but Arkansas (19-7, 4-3 SEC) scored a run in the third and fifth before four in the sixth to lead 6-3.

The Razorbacks added a run in the seventh, but Missouri had its own rally with three runs in the ninth. Shane Benes hit a solo shot to left field and Brett Bond blasted a two-run shot to left two batters later in the inning.

The Tigers got the tying run to second base, but a flyout ended the game.

Reggie McClain (3-1) struck out five in 51/3 innings, but allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk.

Cole Bartlett allowed an unearned run on three hits in an inning of relief. Austin Tribby struck out one in two-thirds of an inning, while Nolan Gromacki allowed a hit in one inning.

Doug Willey (1-1) earned the win for Arkansas, striking out three and allowing a hit in three innings of relief.

Kirby McGuire led off the game with a double and later scored on Zach Lavy's sacrifice fly.

Trey Harris led off the second inning with a double and Brian Sharp followed it up with a single. Both scored when Benes reached on an error, giving Missouri a 3-0 lead.

Harris had two doubles for Missouri. Bond also had two hits.

The teams will continue the three-game series at 7:30 p.m. today (SEC Network-TV).
