Suspects sought in Jefferson City shooting

Two men are being sought for a Wednesday morning shooting on the east side of Jefferson City that left another man injured.

Just after 10:30 a.m., Jefferson City police responded to a call of a shooting in the 200 block of Pine Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 23-year-old Jefferson City male, who appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound. Officers were able to speak to the victim, who was then transported to an area hospital.

Detectives initiated an investigation with the assistance of patrol officers and members of the Community Action Team.

Witnesses described the suspects as two black males, ages 18-25, of average height and build. One was wearing a black hoodie and khaki pants and the other was in black shorts and a gray hoodie. Both suspects fled the scene on foot to the northeast.

An extensive search in the area resulted in the location of a handgun believed to be used in the shooting.

East Elementary School, Simonsen Ninth Grade Center, the Jefferson City Academic Center and Immaculate Conception School were put on lockdown status for roughly an hour.

The schools were put on lockdown as a precautionary measure while the search for the suspects was taking place, at the direction of the Jefferson City Police Department, according to a school official.
