Middle School Volleyball: Thomas Jefferson in tourney

COLUMBIA - The Thomas Jefferson seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams played in their conference tournament Saturday at Hickman High School.

The eighth-grade team won the tournament with a record of 5-0 and is now 9-1 on the year.

The Lady Patriots beat Gentry (25-19, 25-23), Oakland (25-18, 25-12), Southern Boone (25-20, 26-24), Smithton (26-24, 25-20) and Lewis and Clark (22-25, 25-20, 15-8) on the way to the title.

Madeline Showers had 34 assists, 27 aces, five digs and eight kills; Anna Owens had 24 kills, eight aces and five digs; Abigayle Lagore had 17 kills, four blocks, six digs and six aces; and Jennie Daehnick had 12 aces.

The seventh-grade team went 0-2-2 to fall to 1-6-2 on the season.

The Lady Patriots fell 25-13, 25-21 to Gentry; lost 25-20, 25-19 to Oakland; split with Southern Boone, losing 25-19 and winning 25-14; and split with Smithton, losing 25-15 and winning 25-20.

Taylor Roettgen had two kills, one assist and 13 aces; Myla Chalmers had 11 assists and three aces; and Jordan Neirmeyer had four kills and four aces.

Thomas Jefferson is back in action Monday night at Gentry.
