Helias repeats as district champs in golf

EUGENE - The Helias Lady Crusaders repeated as district golf team champions by taking the Class 1 District 3 title Monday at Redfield Golf and Country Club.

Helias finished with a team total of 337. It's the first time the Lady Crusaders have won back-to-back district golf titles since the 2006-07 seasons.

The Lady Crusaders placed all five individuals among the top seven finishers Monday. Lauren Plunkett fired a 5-over 77 to take second for Helias, while Maggie Kehoe shot an 84 to take fourth. Luci Francka was sixth with an 86, while Ashten Lorts and Alex Nelson tied for seventh with 90s.

Father Tolton was second in the eight-team field with a 364.

Helias, which finished third in the state tournament last year, and Father Tolton advance as teams to the sectional tournament Monday at Silo Ridge in Bolivar.

Mikalya Jungmeyer of Russellville was the medalist Monday, shooting a 3-over 75. Jungmeyer and her Russellville teammates Maddie Bungart and Madison Oliver all advanced to the sectional as individuals after earning all-district honors by finishing in the top 15.

Other area players advancing to the sectional include: Hannah Cornman, Alexandra Morningstar and Maddison Markland of New Bloomfield; Kimblery Wilbers, Brianna Kempker and Rachel Wood of Eugene; Olivia Imler of Southern Boone; and Olivia Crane of School of the Osage.
