Fatima wins cross country titles at Hancock Invite

ST. LOUIS - The Fatima Comets and Lady Comets captured team honors Saturday in the Hancock Cross Country Invitational at Jefferson Barracks.

Fatima had the top four individual finishers and claimed the Class 1-2 girls team title with 22 points.

Anna Massman was first (19:17.45), followed by Brianna Haller (19:27.20), Katelyn Vanderfeltz (20:24.75) and Alyssa Struemph (20:31.83).

Fatima totaled 42 points to take top honors in the Class 1-2 boys race. Whitfield was second with 54, while Russellville took third with 80 in the 15-team event.

Fatima had four runners finish in the top nine individuals. Hunter Hennier was fourth (17:32.30), one spot better than Cody Huhn (17:41.78). Alex Krieg was seventh (17:51.28) and Logan Borland was ninth (18:03.88).

Anthony Bertucci finished sixth (17:44.25) to pace Russellville.

On the girls side, Sydney Robertson was 25th (22:59.07) to lead Russellville, which did not field a full team.

In Class 4, the Jefferson City Lady Jays were fifth and the Jays were sixth.

Kayelee Payton finished eighth in 19:51 to lead the Lady Jays, who totaled 126 team points.

Lafayette: Wildwood was first with 26 points, with Ste. Genevieve (52) and West Plains (75) rounding out the top three in the 13-team field.

Courtney Fitch paced the Jays by finishing 16th in 17:04. The Jays, running without a pair of starters, totaled 168 points in the 22-team event. Festus was first with 54 points, with West Plains (85) and Lafayette: Wildwood (124) rounding out the top three teams.

In the Class 4 JV girls event, the Lady Jays totaled 55 points to take the title in a 20-team field. Alivia Bopp led the Lady Jays by finishing sixth (21:53.80).

In the Class 4 JV boys race, Jefferson City finished third with 73 points. Jeff Dodson was seventh (18:13.74) to lead the Jays.

In Class 3, the Helias Lady Crusaders finished second and the Crusaders were fifth.

Kayla Yanskey paced the Lady Crusaders, finishing sixth in 20:35.38. Helias totaled 72 points, with MICDS taking first with 54 and Festus finishing third in the 15-team event with 119.

In the Class 1-3 JV race, Helias finished with 41 team points to top 12 other teams. Kylie Frank was third to lead the Lady Crusaders (22:38.26).

Elliot Knernschield finished fourth in 16:55.95 to pace the Crusaders. Helias totaled 155 points. Ste. Genevieve was first with 41, with Festus (65) and Priory (107) rounding out the top three in the 19-team field.

In the Class 1-3 JV race, Riley Scott was 23rd to lead Helias, which did not field a full team.
