BizBeat: Capitol Plaza under new management

Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, at 415 W. McCarty St. in Jefferson City, will be under new management effective Friday.

The downtown hotel has been owned by Atrium Holding Co. since 2005, when the company purchased several hotels belonging to John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. At the time, Atrium Holding agreed John Q. Hammons Management LLC would continue to manage those properties. But the company recently started its own management company, Atrium Hospitality LP.

So, starting next month, Atrium will both own and manage the hotel.

Employees have "been given the choice to either stay with John Q. Hammons or work for the new management company and stay on the property here," said Rick Mata, Capitol Plaza general manager. "Atrium Hospitality has been very generous in letting the employees keep their tenure because some people have worked here for decades."

Despite the management shift, things should be business as usual for Capitol Plaza employees and customers, Mata said.

The News Tribune requested comment from the Atrium Hospitality corporate office, but the call was not returned.
