Jefferson City ArtsLive Weekend begins

The Jefferson City ArtsLive Weekend begins tonight and runs through Saturday in downtown Jefferson City.

The event is sponsored by Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau; Downtown Jefferson City; Jefferson City Parks and Recreation and Forestry Department and 101.9 KPLA.

The action is located in the 100 and 200 block of East High Street and the 100 block of Madison Street.

The Temporary Outdoor Consumption events rule is in place and adult beverages are available in an event cup for those over 21 who buy a wristband.

The weekend begins tonight with the second part of the season for Thursday Night Live from 6-9 p.m. on the stage on the corner of Madison and High streets.

Driving Wheel will perform at 6 p.m. and Cherry Pistols at 7 p.m.

The SoupStock competition will also take place and the public can sample and vote for favorite soups provided by the following restaurants: Spectators' Bar & Grill, J. Pfenny's, Bones, Grand Cafe, Ricks' Cafe, Prison Brews, Steve's family Restaurant, Eco Lounge, Sawadee Thai Restaurant, Cafe Via Roma, Capitol Grill and Cork & Provision.

This begins at 5:30 p.m.

Activities will continue on Friday from 6-9 p.m. The third in a series of Art Strolls will take place with the best in galleries, artists, photography, restaurants, shops and entertainment featured. Local artists will be present to show their crafts. There will be dance, theater, sculptures, Plein Air, poets, chefs, photographers, street performers, storytellers, theater skits, magicians, jugglers, string quartets, a capella groups and more in the two block area and the Missouri River Regional Library Cultural Arts series with Tom Andes will take place on the South lawn of the Capital at 7 p.m.

Again purchase of a wrist band will allow adults to purchase beverages from participating out door bars.

On Saturday the day begins at 11 a.m with the Labor Day Parade then the 24th Annual Capital Jazzfest takes the stage at Madison and High Streets.

This is a free music festival created by Jazz Forward Initiative, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

This year the line up includes: University of Missouri Concert Jazz Band at 1:30 p.m.; Adorne at 2:50 p.m.; Marbin at 4:15 p.m.; Max Groove at 5:40 p.m.; and Tom Andes Quartet at 7 p.m.

Also from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. the Capital Arts Fest features the chalk art drawing and competition. This takes place on High Street from Jefferson to Monroe Streets.

Included in this event will be performances by the Mule Kickers dance group, Renaissance re-enactors and the group 32 Bartenders who will perform traditional dances in which the public can participate. Also several local organizations and groups will perform.

Jill Snodgrass, an organizer with Daily Plan It, encourages the public to come downtown and enjoy the entertainment and fun of downtown Jefferson City.
