Jays' JV, freshmen football teams defeat Hickman

The Jefferson City Jays posted a 37-6 win against Hickman in junior varsity action Monday.

Devon Roberson ran for two touchdowns (14 and 5 yards) and a 2-point conversion. Damarion Winston (20-yard run), Carson Ridgeway (2-yard run) and Davione Evans (42-yard fumble return) also scored touchdowns for Jefferson City. Maleek Jackson ran for two 2-point conversions, while Kane Carpenter and Nick Williams combined on a tackle for a safety.

Christian James blocked a punt for Jefferson City, recovered by Nick Williams, while Jake Haake and an interception.

The Jays (2-1) will play Rock Bridge on Sept. 28.

The Jefferson City freshman rolled past Hickman 49-6 Monday behind three touchdowns from Cortez Burton.

Burton scored on an 8-yard run, a 5-yard run, and an 80-yard kickoff return. Maleek Jackson scored a touchdown on a 24-yard run and kicked five extra points.

Noah Jahr ran for touchdowns from 2 and 9 yards out. Kade Garnett scored a touchdown on a 7-yard run and had a successful 2-point conversion as well.

Jeremy Zayumba recovered a fumble for the Jays, Brett Kolb hauled in an interception, and Christian Chavez had a sack.

The Jays (2-1) play Monday at DeSmet.
