Your Opinion: Scene symptomatic of dysfunction

Dear Editor:

Tuesday, walking downtown, I witnessed a puzzling and troubling sight. A man was duct taped to one of the brick columns outside the County Courthouse Annex. Lots of duct tape, "round and "round and "round.

A group of maybe 20 people were having a raucously good time chucking water balloons at him. Though the guy seemed clearly in on it, the scene brought to mind lynchings and gang rapes and schoolyard bullying.

I see this as a symptom of a seriously dysfunctional culture. I personally cannot fathom finding this sort of thing entertaining. It's no wonder the legislators feel entitled to prey upon college students in a town that celebrates this kind of behavior. I hope the people involved will seriously question this antic.
