Dear Editor:
Misconception of the character of God is fueling the debates for and against abortion, homosexuality, and government greed and injustice.
God is the creator and sustainer of all life and everything we see and can't see in our universe. Non-believers can deny that all they want, but denying something doesn't mean it's not true. The Holy Spirit of God reveals truth to those who truly want to know it. God is the perfect loving Father. He has given us His Word and His commands to establish the boundaries of right and wrong and to provide the safety and security that any good father would do.
In addition to His written Word, He sent His Word into the world as flesh in the person of Jesus Christ to walk out His Word before us. He has not only told us His will, but He gave us a living example through His Son, our Savior and Messiah, and then after that living example, the final debt payment was made for us through His death on that sacrificial cross. If we will believe and receive that payment for our sins, we are to take up our cross and follow Him (obey Him) in every area of our lives.
God is love, but He does not condone sinful lifestyles or continued open rebellion against His commands. John 14:15 says, "If you love Me, you will obey My commandments."
There is a requirement on our side of this relationship. Abortion, murder of innocent life created by God is rebellion against God's commandments. Homosexuality is included as a sexual sin and is also called unnatural and an abomination and goes against God's Word and His established definition of marriage. Greed, bribery and injustice by individuals and those serving in positions of authority who have taken oaths to uphold the law are sinning against God's commands.
However, we are to fear God's law over man's law. As rebellious children we can choose to excuse our choices and go our own way, but the loving Father will never allow us to continue in destructive behavior without correction.
If we do not turn back America is in for a mighty correction.
