Robbery, drug-related cases lead to multiple indictments

This week the Cole County Grand Jury handed down several indictments, finding there was enough evidence in these cases to send them onto the circuit courts for possible trial.

• Among those indicted where three Jefferson City residents charged in connection with a robbery and kidnapping that took place July 24 in Jefferson City.

Brandon James, 29, was charged with one count of first-degree robbery.

Brooklynn Stevenson, 18, was charged with first-degree robbery, kidnapping and two counts of armed criminal action.

Kenyatta Sims, 26, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of kidnapping.

According to police reports, a 27-year-old Jefferson City man was the victim in the incident that took place in the 2000 block of St. Louis Road.

During the incident, the victim was robbed of $35 cash, then driven to St. Louis at gunpoint.

Once in St. Louis, the victim was shot once in the head. The victim was shot as the result of narcotic-related activity.

The victim survived and was able to advise investigators of the robbery and kidnapping that took place in Jefferson City.

Court documents show Stevenson told authorities she invited the victim to her house and admitted she "set him up."

Stevenson also admitted holding a firearm to the victim's torso during the kidnapping and drive to St. Louis, but denied shooting him.

Before being driven to St. Louis, the victim was taken to James' residence on Terra Bella Drive, where James demanded money from the victim at gunpoint to pay for his $50 narcotics debt. The victim, fearing for his life, gave James a watch and his cell phone so he wouldn't be shot.

Authorities said Sims helped to rob the victim at gunpoint and apparently contemplated shooting the victim in Jefferson City.

• Also indicted were two Jefferson City men charged in connection with a June armed robbery in Jefferson City.

Aaron Session, 20, is facing charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

Isaiah Alexander, 20, is facing first-degree robbery. At the time of his arrest, he had an outstanding warrant for parole absconder in connection with another robbery case.

According to police reports, officers responded to the 200 block of North Ventura in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Prior to officers arriving on the scene, the suspects had left the area. No one was injured during the robbery.

The reporting person stated three suspects entered the residence and ordered the occupants to the floor.

The suspects were armed with handguns.

One of the victims was able to identify the suspects, and officers located the three in a nearby residence.

Two handguns used during the robbery were recovered, a 9 mm handgun and a .22-caliber handgun.

Court documents show Session had been invited to the residence for a drug deal.

Session and Alexander came over and displayed guns ordering the victims to give them everything they had.

• Also indicted this week was a Jefferson City woman charged with stealing more than $10,000 while working as a manager at Lee's Chicken on Missouri Boulevard.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Pamela Reed, 48, admitted to stealing money from the business.

She said she had been stealing money from the store's cash register, taking about $60 to $80 a week.

Reed told authorities how she covered the losses by taking cash from customers, ringing the transaction as a gift card and pocketing the cash.

Reed had been working at Lee's since June 2014, and according to store records, losses increased compared to the months prior to Reed's coming on board.

The total loss from the gift card line of store records shows $10,214.

The videos from in-store security show Reed taking the cash.

Reed said she wasn't sure how much she had embezzled from the company, but said she also stole money from the Lee's restaurant in Columbia in the same manner prior to her coming to work in Jefferson City.

• Also indicted was a Eugene man charged with assaulting a man in January by hitting him in the head with a pistol and threatening to kill him.

Dennis Moses, 35, is charged with second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the attack occurred in the 3100 block of Algoa Road.

The victim said Moses had traveled to his residence and an argument ensued over property.

The victim said Moses struck him multiple times in the head with a 9 mm pistol. The victim also said Moses pointed the pistol at his head and threatened to kill him before fleeing the area.

Witnesses confirmed the victim's story, and the victim's injuries were consistent with being struck with a firearm.

When interviewed by authorities, Moses initially said he hit the victim with his fist, not a pistol, but when questioned again later he said, "I don't remember."

A search of Moses' residence turned up two 9 mm pistols, each with a round in the chamber.
