Three residents in custody following pursuit in southern Cole County

Three people are in the Cole County Jail following a pursuit with authorities in southern Cole County early Friday.

Authorities have identified two of the three individuals after the vehicle were riding in crashed.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show Brandon Burkhart, 18, of Jefferson City, was on Brown Road at Hickory Hill Road, around 2:50 a.m.

He was being pursued by authorities and entered the intersection going too fast, struck an embankment and crashed.

Burkhart was treated for minor injuries while his passenger, Lyndzie Mattox, 18, of Jefferson City, was treated for moderate injuries.

Burkhart and Mattox were not wearing seat belts.

According to Cole County Sheriff's Department personnel, at 2:30 a.m. at Missouri 179 and Route B, deputies tried to stop Burkhart, but he failed to yield and went down Tanner Bridge Road. The deputies were trying to stop the vehicle for traffic violations.

Spike strips were put out at Route E and Tanner Bridge, but Burkhart continued on even though his tires were punctured.

He eventually turned onto U.S. 54 and was traveling the wrong way before crashing.

Burkhart is facing charges of resisting arrest, driving without a license and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Mattox is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. She had two active warrants for failure to appear for driving while revoked.

The third person in the vehicle, who had no reported injuries, was only identified as a 28-year-old male, is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was in possession of methamphetamine.

EARLIER COVERAGE

Firefighters and ambulance personnel responded around 2:50 a.m. today to a vehicle wreck on Brown Road at Hickory Hill Road in southern Cole County.

Initial reports indicated three occupants were in the vehicle when it ran off the roadway while being pursued by law enforcement officers. Cole County Fire Protection District personnel were called to the scene to perform extrication.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
