ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis County doctor has been sentenced to three years of probation for receiving misbranded drugs and making false statements in patient files.
The U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis said Wednesday that 62-year-old Mel Lucas of Chesterfield and his clinic, Patterson Medical Clinic in Florissant, also repaid $186,000 to the government to settle allegations of false submission of claims for payment to Medicare and TRICARE.
Lucas pleaded guilty in May to receipt in interstate commerce of misbranded prescription drugs, and his clinic pleaded guilty to false statements related to health services.
Co-defendant Robyn Levy faces sentencing this month. She pleaded guilty in May to interstate commerce of misbranded prescription drugs.
Court documents show that Lucas purchased a non-FDA-approved drug for osteoporosis from two Canadian companies.
