Power restored to eastern Jefferson City neighborhoods

U.S. 50/63 reopens after closing for downed lines

Electric service went out early today in some eastern Jefferson City neighborhoods and parts of eastern Cole County, but has since been restored.

Emergency personnel responded around 2 a.m. to a report of a utility line down in the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 50/63 between Eastland Drive and East McCarty Street. The highway was closed down in both directions, but has since reopened.

Ameren Missouri's power outage map indicated 978 customers initially lost power in an area between U.S. 54 and the Osage River, including parts of eastern Jefferson City and Wardsville.

The utility company reported all but 226 customers had power restored by 3:20 a.m. However, the highway remained closed until midway through the 4 o'clock hour as Ameren crews continued to work in the area of the downed lines.

Around 200 customers were still without power at 5:20 a.m., but had regained electric service before 6 a.m.
