MoDOT behind in roadside upkeep

Missouri Department of Transportation officials said Tuesday they are running "a little behind" on their schedule of mowing and weed control in Central Missouri, but hope to be caught up soon.

Central District Maintenance Engineer Randy Aulbur said typically August is the time of year when we place a heavier focus on roadway preservation operations.

For this area, they are concentrating resources on chip seal operations. In Moniteau County, crews are doing routes A, BB, H, N, U and PP. In Cooper County, crews are working on routes EE, CC and OO. In Boone County, crews are working on routes BB, V, U, DD and MM.

"By allowing our crews to focus on these activities, we are able to extend the life and condition of the pavement in these areas," Aulbur said. "Because we have to prioritize our work and allocate our resources as best we can, we are a little behind on mowing and trimming in some areas, especially given the persistent rainfall received early this summer that has resulted in stronger growth during the past month. We are working to catch up on this activity even as we focus on road preservation work."
