A parked Callaway County Sheriff patrol vehicle sports the nation's motto on a bumper sticker Tuesday. It was added last week after the Missouri Sheriffs Association came to a unanimous vote for departments to add the bumper stickers to their patrol vehicles.

As of last week, the majority of the patrol vehicles at the Callaway County Sheriff's Office feature a new addition on the bumpers.

The vehicles now sport a new bumper sticker with the phrase "In God We Trust," citing the national motto.

"It's the national motto, and I believe it's the day and time to put our trust in something," Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said.

During the first week of August, the Missouri Sheriff's Association created a resolution to feature the stickers on the back of patrol vehicles.

"It got national attention when the sheriffs in southern Missouri did this and the issue was brought up to us here at our conference at the lake, so we took the vote to support the concept," Cole County Sheriff Greg White said.

Prior to the conference, Crane was already toying with the idea to add the bumper stickers using a local vendor. The vendor was going to charge the department $50 for each vehicle, Crane said, but a company in Springfield provided stickers for interested departments free of charge, he added.
