Your Opinion: Don't politicize judge's ruling II

Dear Editor:

To hear those clamoring for her head on a platter, Judge Joyce went crazy and dismissed a criminal charge against a confessed child molester. Hyperbole in pursuit of political gain at the expense of our elected judges is odious. Judge Joyce did not ask for the assignment; it came from the Supreme Court after the judges at the Lake were recused.

The Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "[i]n all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy ... trial ... ." When Judge Joyce enforced that right, as she was required to do by the Constitution, she was doing no more and no less than her job.

Doubtless she was as troubled by it as anyone, but the blame, if there is any, lies with the prosecutor and not the judge. The judge ruled on the facts before her; the prosecutor contributed to those facts. The prior judges contributed to those facts. Judge Joyce did not.

Cries for her impeachment are simply the illiterate ramblings of ill-informed hucksters out to make political hay. Shame on them.
