They say that there are two sides to every story. Some stories are multifaceted. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you the whole story behind Sheriff Michael Dixon's harassment case.
What I can tell you is that before Michael Dixon was elected sheriff, Osage County was a cesspool of drugs and meth labs. One meth lab even blew up and burned a cafe on the square right across from the courthouse.
Michael Dixon made a campaign promise to clean up Osage County and with the help of the Lake Area Drug Task Force progress is being made.
When he took office the jail was a dump. It was in total disrepair from the electrical system, the phones, the cells themselves could have been cruel and unusual punishment.
He has fixed most of the major problems but our county is small and broke and funding an uphill battle every step of the way.
The old patrol cars had a history of breaking down on patrol. Working with the state he has acquired some very reliable used patrol vehicles.
Because of his war on drugs, his commitment to his officers and the jail, his gung-ho attitude and even his family's money he has acquired a lot of enemies and they have been relentless in trying to get him removed from office. It would give the drug dealers a sigh of relief if he were gone but they are not the only group going at Sheriff Dixon.
Sheriff Michael Dixon has brought a lot of good to Osage County. He is not the evil, sleazy person that some people would want you to believe.
I hope that POST gives him his law enforcement license back for good, no new hearing is needed. At least Judge Beetem has seen that there is more to this story.
If Osage County loses Sheriff Dixon we all lose in so many ways.
