Lake attractions offer many spooky surprises for family

Halloween at Lake of the Ozarks is abundant with costume contest parties, concerts and activities for adults at resorts, restaurants and nightclubs, and a variety of haunted hayrides, trick or treat "spooktaculars" and many ways to receive candy, prizes and loads of frightening fun for the whole family this year.

The events include:

• Lodge of Four Seasons Hayrides - Hayrides offered every Saturday night through Nov. 14. Hayrides and activities are free for overnight guests and cost $5 per person for non-guests. • Pumpkin Patch at Hy-Vee - A community pumpkin patch is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in Hy-Vee's parking lot in Osage Beach. • Christ the King Lutheran Trunk or Treat - The church's fifth annual trunk or treat event is set from 4-6 p.m. today at the church, 1700 Bagnell Dam Blvd., Lake Ozark. • Captain Ron's Kids Spooktacular in Sunrise Beach - Several businesses will hand out goodies in a free, safe trick-or-treating environment along Captain Ron's treasure pass from 5-6:30 p.m. today at the Sunrise Beach restaurant, Lake Road 5-50. For more information: 573-374-5852.

• Hy-Vee Hollow Trick-or-Treat Maze - The annual event is set from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Hy-Vee parking lot in Osage Beach. Dress in costume; admission is $2 per person. Proceeds benefit the Lake of the Ozarks Dream Factory. For more information: 573-302-7977.

• Inaugural "Crank It Up" Carnevil & Cars Halloweenfest - The inaugural car show will be held Friday and Saturday at the Linn Creek Sportsplex. Awards will be given at 3 p.m. No entry fee will be charged. Costume contests for children, adults and canines will be held. Other activities include "Carnevil" games, horseback riding, vendors, concessions, a bonfire, live music and a trunk or treat from 6-8 p.m. A pumpkin dessert contest will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. • The Witching Hour Site's Interactive Trick-or-Treat - In its 11th year, The Witching Hour will feature trick-or-treating from 5-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with more than five spooky, Halloween-themed areas and games. • Mother Nature's Riverfront Retreat's Haunted Maze and Hayride - From 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the Mother Nature's Riverfront Retreat is hosting its Haunted Maze and Hayride and giving cash prizes to the best displays in its "Spookiest Family Plots" contest. • Eldon Rough Riders Saddle Club Halloween Fun show - The Eldon Rough Riders Saddle Club will host a Halloween Fun Show at 10 a.m. Saturday on Halloween at ERRSC Arena, located at Business 54 and Missouri 87 in Eldon. Participants pay $2 per class and $5 for the costume class. Events include costume class, balloon race, pickup race, boot race, tater race, Simon says, musical spot, in/out, back to back and barrels bareback. Additional activities include pony rides for $5 per person, apple bobbing and paint the pony for $1. The costume class is judged at 3 p.m. for 5 and under and 6-12 age groups.

• Affiliated Acceptance Trunk or Treat - In its third year, the event will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 14443 N. Highway 5 in Sunrise Beach. For more information: 573-374-9970.

• Tri-County YMCA Spooktacular - The Tri-County YMCA will host its annual Spooktacular for children in preschool to age 12 from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. • Halloween on the Strip at Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark - In its 16th year, Halloween on the Strip is a free event where children can trick or treat from 2-4 p.m. Saturday and enjoy variety of games. A costume contest will be at 4 p.m. at Luby's stage. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes in four age divisions: under 3, 3-6, 7-11 and 12 and older. • Trunk or Treat at Dierbergs - Trick-or-treaters can travel from car to car and receive candy from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Dierbergs Market. For more information: 573-552-0200.

• Trunk or Treat at Sunrise Beach Community Center - The trunk or treat will be 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Sunrise Beach Community Center, located on north Missouri 5. This event is free. For more information: 573-374-0374.

• Spooktacular Trick or Treat - A Spooktacular Trick or Treat is set from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Ryland Center parking lot, located at 1185 N. Business 5, in Camdenton. Local business owners will compete for the best kid-friendly trick or treat display. Families are encouraged to dress up; the event is free.

• Halloween at The Ice - The event is scheduled 4-10 p.m. Saturday at the outdoor ice skating rink at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton. A variety of games, activities and candy for the kids will be provided, as well as a costume contest. Cost to ice skate is $10 for a skate session and $3 for skate rental. • Westside Spooky Shuffle - A Halloween-inspired pub shuffle for adults will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday on the Lake's west side. • Free Harvest Carnival - Sponsored by the First Assembly of God Church in Eldon, a free Halloween alternative activity is set from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Eldon Community Center.
