Your Opinion: Response to columnist on Dr. Ben Carson

Dear Editor:

The following is a response to a commentary by Ann McFeatters, about Dr. Ben Carson.

Did we not applaud the actions of the servicemen who risked their lives on the French train? Did we not applaud the actions of Chris Mintz who was shot as he tried to prevent the death of others at Umpqua Community College?

Why in the world would we denigrate Dr. Carson for saying he would do the same thing? I would hope that I, even though I am a fat, old guy, would have the courage to try and prevent the death of others if I was in a similar situation. What American would not aspire to do so?

There is no theory of evolution; there are many theories, all with holes in them. I wonder if Darwin would even believe in it if he were alive today.

All these years and we have no substantive proof of all the transitional life forms that would have been required. With the acceptance of the Big Bang (point of creation) there is now a limit on the time available for all these changes to have occurred.

McFeatters goes on to say that she doesn't know much about Carson. Perhaps she should read one of his many books. If she has access to Netflix she might want to watch the movie "Gifted Hands."

She might even check out his web site www.bencarson.com to learn more about him. Our nation would benefit if more knew his story. It should give hope to any young person living in poverty because it is a story that proves that opportunity still exists for everyone in America.

McFeatters chastises Carson because he does not want to live under Sharia law. Does she want to live in a theocracy?

I don't, even if it is a Christian-based theocracy. In America we should all have the freedom to live as we choose, right up to the point where that freedom infringes upon the freedom of another person.

However, for a system to function with that much freedom society and government must hold us accountable for our actions; accountability/personal responsibility is something that is sorely lacking in today's society.
