SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Jefferson City Lady Jays beat Joplin in the sectionals before falling to Kickapoo in the quarterfinals of the team state tournament Saturday.
The Lady Jays were 5-1 winners against Joplin. Doubles winners for the Lady Jays were Athira Nambiar and Erica Dunn (8-3) and Susan Meyer and Bailey Patrick (8-0). Singles winners were Meyer (6-3, 6-2), Patrick (6-1, 6-0), and Haley Watson (6-1, 6-0).
Jefferson City then fell 5-4 to Kickapoo. Doubles winners were Nambiar and Dunn (8-2) and Meyer and Patrick (8-4). Singles winners were Nambiar (6-3, 7-6) and Esther Ruboneka (6-2, 6-3).
Jefferson City finishes the team season at 18-9.
The doubles team of Nambiar and Dunn will compete in the Class 2 state doubles tournament Friday in Springfield.
