High school band gives boost to annual carnival

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. - The Russellville High School band's Hungry Hungry Hippo was a successful addition Friday to the annual carnival.

Among the other 23 booths, sponsored by classes and clubs from the middle and high schools, the Students Changing Lives was also new.

At the end of the evening, which helps the participating organizations raise funds for their individual upcoming activities, the 2015 carnival royalty were introduced.

Juniors Whitney Van Wechel and Collin Maharas were named the 2015 Carnival King and Queen. Van Wechel is the daughter of Drew and Michelle Henrickson. Maharas is the son of Devona Maharas and the late Kenny Maharas.

Sixth-graders Hannah Mehmert and Landon Waggoner were named the 2015 Carnival Prince and Princess. Mehmert is the daughter of Chris and Lariss Mehmert. Waggoner is the son of Kevin and Tracy Pistel.

Other candidates from the high school included freshmen Kendra Benton, daughter Kendall Benton and Michelle Cotten, and Nick Thompson, son of Jeff and Diane Thompson; sophomores Molly Dampf, daughter of Danny and Jennifer Damp, and Brady Blanton, son of Zac Blanton and Jackie Bartley; and seniors Therasia Brautigam, daughter of Doug and Michele Brautigam, and Cory Jackson, son of Charles and Florence Jackson.

Other candidates from the middle school included seventh-graders Olivia Barnett, daughter of Clinton and Christina Barnett, and Gabe Little, son of Heath and Cheryl Little; and eighth-graders Sophie Hemmings, daughter of William and Kerry Watt, and Collin Lueckenotte, son of Chris and Lesley Lueckenotte.

From the elementary, participants included Isobel Willard, daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Willard; Levi Parker, son of Derek and Crista Parker; Megan Eickhorst, daughter of Chad and Natalie Eickhorst; and Isaac Eberhart, son of Elizabeth Eberhart.

The high school also honored two foreign exchange students visiting the school this year, by including them in the carnival royalty.

Patricia Roca Hernandex De Armijo is from Spain and is staying with Jason and Michelle Ford.

Amos Barnabas is from India and is staying with Theresa Buhr.
