Jefferson City man dies in car, moped accident

A Jefferson City man driving a moped died after being rear-ended Friday night.

Jeremiah M. Bray, 27, of Jefferson City, was driving a 1999 Honda Accord when he struck the 2009 Motofino moped of Donald D. Vanosdol, 70, of Jefferson City, from behind on U.S. 50 at 7:53 p.m. Friday.

Vanosdol was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report. He was wearing a safety device. This is Patrol Troop F's first fatality this month and 48th of the year.

• A Linn man and woman sustained injuries after being struck from behind Friday evening.

Cheryl A. Lanford, 48, of Linn, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, was stopped in traffic due to an accident on U.S. 50, west County Road 800 in Osage County, when Hunter A. Smith, 21, of Linn, struck her vehicle from behind with his 2013 Dodge Caravan.

Lanford and her passenger, Kenneth S. Winkler, 35, of Linn, were transported to University Hospital in Columbia following the crash. Lanford suffered minor injuries and Winkler sustained moderate ones, according to the Patrol. Smith was not injured, and all were wearing safety devices.
