KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Helias Lady Crusaders advanced four players from the Class 1 District 8 individual tournament Saturday.
Abby Dowden and Catherine Conley finished first in doubles, and Ashley Dowden and Megan Oliver finished first and second, respectively in singles.
Abby Dowden and Conley began with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Palmyra after their first-round bye. They then defeated Moberly 6-1, 6-0 and Kirksville 7-5, 6-1 for the championship.
Emmi Theroff and Grace Verslues beat Fulton 6-0, 6-1 in the first round before losing 6-3, 6-2 to the second-place Kirksville duo.
In singles, Ashley Dowden had a bye before topping Mexico 6-1, 6-0; Palmyra 6-0, 6-0; and Oliver 6-1, 6-0.
Oliver got to the championship match by means of a bye, a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Kirksville and a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Palmyra.
Individual sectionals take place this week at Liberty: Wentzville.
