Work began in June on a building addition that will double a Holts Summit nursing home's size and capacity.
The Guthrie family has owned and managed Summit Villa Assisted Living for five years, and decided this year to add a second 46-bed assisted living facility to make its full capacity 92 beds.
"It's taken a while to fine-tune our process, and we feel like we've been pretty successful with that," said Admissions Coordinator Jason Guthrie.
The 20-year-old facility was licensed for 92 beds - two in each of the 46 rooms - when the Guthries purchased the business, but their management policy has been to operate with only private rooms.
"By having everybody have a private room these days, everybody kind of has a place to go back to and their own small, little home," Guthrie said.
The second building, to go up about 120 feet from the original, will add another 46 rooms to allow for private rooms at the facility's full 92-bed capacity.
The addition will be known as The Timbers Assisted Living. It will be about 13,000 square feet larger than Summit Villa and will feature new amenities including a sports bar, greenhouse, library and 30-seat chapel.
The Timbers eventually should add about 27 jobs, Guthrie said.
"Our care and personalized approach that we do with everybody, that won't really change," he added. "It's more or less just the size of the new building."
