Missouri man sentenced to life for molesting 2 young girls

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A 45-year-old southwest Missouri man will serve six concurrent life sentences for molesting two young girls in 2009.

The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/1FLypL7) reports Daniel Pyburn entered an Alford plea Wednesday to six counts of statutory sodomy. Such a plea means he did not admit committing the crimes but acknowledged prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction.

Prosecutors say the Morrisville man went by the alias of "Maverick," and a Springfield family that let him live in their home was not aware he was a registered sex offender in Texas.

Pyburn has been in the Greene County Jail since April 2012. A life sentence in Missouri is 30 years, and prosecutors say he will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
