Kenney pleads guilty to DWI

Bill Kenney, a former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and state senator, pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and was placed on two years unsupervised probation.

Kenney now serves on the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The Cole County Sheriff's Department said Kenney, 60, was released after posting bond following the incident in March.

According to Jefferson City Police, Kenney was discovered passed out and slumped over the steering wheel of his car in a Taco Bell parking lot at 2605 Missouri Blvd.

Kenney had bloodshot, glassy eyes, and "his speech was slurred and confused." Kenny admitted he had "a couple" of drinks at a downtown Jefferson City bar.

He stumbled when he exited the vehicle and refused to take a field sobriety test. He also refused to take a breath-alcohol test. A blood sample was taken after a search warrant was issued.

Gov. Jay Nixon named Kenney two years ago to a six-year PSC term - at the time, Kenney was Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder's chief of staff.

Kenney was a Kansas City Chiefs quarterback from 1979-88, then became a real estate developer in the Kansas City area.

He served in the Missouri Senate from 1995-2003, representing eastern Jackson County.
