Columbia jury convicts man of 2014 stabbing death

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri jury has convicted a man in connection with a stabbing death last year.

A Boone County jury deliberated about four hours before finding 58-year-old Anthony Shegog of Columbia guilty of second-degree murder.

Jurors concluded Shegog stabbed 59-year-old Walter Lige to death in October of last year. Prosecutors argued that the killing took place while Shegog was enraged after Lige talked to Shegog's girlfriend.

The defense argued that Shegog fell asleep that day, woke up and saw a body lying near his home.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 2.
