Lake area embezzling trial continued

The jury trial for Cassandra Franklin on embezzling charges has been continued at the request of Prosecutor Jon Morris.

Morris, Franklin and her attorney, Cody Edwards, were in Camden County Circuit Court Monday morning, but the state requested a continuance due to inadequate time to prepare, according to Missouri Case.net.

After receiving no objection from Franklin, Judge Kenneth M. Hayden granted the request, and the trial will be rescheduled.

Franklin was terminated Sept. 22, 2014, by the Camdenton R-3 School District on suspicion of embezzlement after an internal investigation revealed an estimated $127,000 of school funds was allegedly taken by Franklin. The charges carry a potential prison sentence of 5-15 years on conviction.

On or about Dec. 8, Franklin was arrested and charged with a Class B felony of stealing, at which time she posted a required $7,000 bond.

On Jan. 8, a motion was made and granted for a special prosecutor. Various preliminary hearings have been held since.
