Valle Catholic beat Penney 61-36 for the Class 1 title

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Connor Basler passed for three scores and ran for two others to lead Valle Catholic to a 61-36 win over Penney in the Class 1 state championship game on Saturday.

Valle (15-0) has won 45 successive games, believed to be the fourth-longest current run in the country.

Valle won its third successive title and its state-record 14th overall.

Basler rushed for 144 yards on 21 carries. He also hit on 9 of 15 passes for 131 yards.

The Warriors were making their state-record 17th title-game appearance.

Coleman Keeley returned an interception 30 yards for a score just 30 seconds into the contest. Valle, located in Ste. Genevieve about an hour south of St. Louis, jumped out to a 41-8 lead and never looked back.

Penney (11-4) had won its previous five games.
