Tournaments played on Nov. 26, 2015

SYDNEY (AP) - Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott struggled to even-par 71s in the hot, windy opening round of the Australian Open on Thursday, leaving them five strokes behind leader Lincoln Tighe.

Australia's Tighe, with seven birdies and two bogeys, had a one-stroke lead after a 66. He was one of only 18 in the 156-player field to break par at The Australian Golf Club.

Australia's Matt Jones, who is a member at The Australian, birdied the par-5 18th for a 67.

Geoff Ogilvy, the 2010 champion who was playing in the same group as Spieth, had a 68 for a third-place tie with fellow Australian Todd Sinnott and 17-year-old Taiwanese amateur Yu Chun-an.

The top-ranked Spieth won last year at the course. He birdied his opening hole and bogeyed his last to go along with birdies on a pair of par 5s and bogeys on two par 3s. Scott had two double bogeys in three holes, but came back with a birdie on the last to match Spieth.

ALFRED DUNHILL CHAMPIONSHIP

MALELANE, South Africa (AP) - South Africa's Christiaan Basson shot an 8-under 64 to top the Alfred Dunhill Championship leaderboard when play was suspended because of lightning.

South African star Charl Schwartzel was tied for second, three strokes behind Basson, with one hole left at Leopard Creek. Schwartzel won in 2005, 2012 and 2013.

Zimbawe's Mark Williams and England's Matt Ford shot 67.

The tournament opens the European Tour's 2015-16 season.
