Eldon to hold town hall meeting on proposed tax increase

The city of Eldon will hold a town hall meeting Dec. 1 for purposes of informing citizens of the proposed tax increase, which will be on the April 2016 ballot.

The meeting will be held at the Y Building at 7 p.m. Citizens can expect to have informational handouts and a presentation regarding the streets within the city of Eldon, detailing the need for repair and the costs it will take.

Mayor Ron Bly, city staff, the city engineer and Board of Aldermen will be on hand to answer questions and provide explanation for the need of the requested .86 tax increase.

This meeting is the first of three town hall meetings; the other two to be held in January and March.

Aldermen and the mayor want to make sure citizens understand how expensive the repairs are going to be and how limited the budget is for allocation.

The Eldon Board of Aldermen voted Oct. 13 to present to the voters of Eldon on the April 2016 ballot a proposition of imposing a .86 tax rate of all taxable property within the city of Eldon for purposes of street improvements to the roadways of the city of Eldon after voting during a public hearing to take it to the board for a vote.

During discussion at the Oct. 13 meeting, Bly assured those present many different alternatives have been looked at but there are no lines of funds from which to draw monies to pay for the needed repairs.
