Authorities ID man killed, woman hurt when train struck them

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man who was killed and a woman who was injured when a train struck them in Springfield.

The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/1PGgzNb) reports that 38-year-old Samuel L. Loper was killed in Wednesday afternoon's crash near a Springfield intersection. Thirty-one-year-old Lisa Islas was taken to a hospital with what police characterized as "serious injuries."

Police say the train collision is under investigation.

Jose Islas and Claudia Kehoe, siblings of Islas, said the pair was in a relationship. They also said Lisa Islas had to have both legs and part of a finger amputated, and has other injuries.
