Missouri freshman DT Beckner out for year with knee injury

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Missouri freshman defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. will miss the rest of the season with torn ACL and MCL ligaments to his right knee.

Beckner, one of the top recruits in the nation last year, was carted off the field after being injured on Missouri's first defensive snap of last week's victory over BYU in Kansas City.

A school spokesman said an MRI exam also showed meniscus damage and a bone bruise. He will undergo surgery in two or three weeks and trainer Rex Sharp is confident the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Beckner, from East St. Louis, Illinois, will be ready by the start of fall camp.

Beckner made five starts, including the last two games. He had three sacks plus eight tackles for loss.
