University of Missouri curator Covington resigns

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The University of Missouri Board of Curators says Ann K. Covington has resigned from the board.

The university system said in a release Thursday that Covington is resigning for personal reasons and that her resignation is effective immediately.

Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Covington to the board in 2013. Her term representing the 4th Congressional District on the board was set to expire on January 1, 2019.

Before being named a curator, Covington was a lawyer and judge for more than three decades and in 1989 was was appointed the first female judge on the Missouri Supreme Court.

Covington said in a statement that over the last year she lost her husband and had other health and family problems that left her without the energy needed for service as a curator.
