Eldon prepares for upcoming holidays

Several events already scheduled

Many holiday activities are already scheduled to ring in the holiday season in Eldon, with one celebration planned for this week.

The Eldon Community Christmas festival is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21.

From 6-6:30 p.m. Friday, the crowning of Princess Holly and Prince Berry and Miss Bell and Mister Jingle will take place at the Eldon Community Center. Cookies and punch will follow the event.

At 10 a.m., the "Winter Wonderland" parade kicks off activities on Saturday. Spectators can visit Santa after the parade until 2 p.m. at the Eldon Community Center. Organizers ask guests to bring a camera.

From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. there will be kids' activities offered by PAVE/AmeriCorps. Throughout the event, 50/50 tickets may be purchased from the Eldon PTO.

Sliders, hotdogs, soup, chili, chips, coffee and lemonade will be available from Maple Street Café.

Entertainment consists of Maple Street Dance at 11:15 a.m.; Eldon High School Choir, 11:45 a.m.; Eldon High School Jazz Band, 12:15 p.m.; Meyers Martial Arts, 12:45 p.m.; and the American Gymnastics at 1:15 p.m.

A free Thanksgiving Dinner is available to the Eldon community Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Eldon PTO Breakfast with Santa will be held from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Eldon South Elementary School. There will be a pancake breakfast for $3 and pictures with Santa for $2. The Eldon Parents as Teachers organization will provide free crafts. Kids are also able to participate in a Christmas Book Walk.

From 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, the City of Eldon presents Eldon's Hometown Christmas. The community can enjoy the second annual Living Windows & Tree Lighting Ceremony. The family-friendly event will offer hayrides down Maple Street to view the participating businesses' windows coming alive and various decorations, Christmas Caroling and, at the end of the night, the mayor will light the community Christmas tree at Whittles Pocket Park.

Those interested may bring an ornament to put on the community tree and girls and boys toys will be collected for the annual Lloyd Belt toy drive. Several businesses will be open, providing an opportunity for shopping.
