Weaver nabs soccer award

William Woods' Tiffany Weaver was named to the first team when the American Midwest Conference recently announced its all-conference soccer teams.

Weaver (Helias High School) helped the team win both the regular-season and tournament titles in the AMC. The sophomore midfielder has started all 21 games for the Cougars and is second on the team with 16 goals. She has three game-winning goals and also tallied 11 assists.

Columbia (18-3) is one of the 31 teams that earned spots in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament. The 21st-ranked Cougars will travel Saturday to Costa Mesa, Calif., to take on 10th-ranked Vanguard University.

The winners of the 15 first-round games will join host Mobile (Ala.) at the national championship final at the Orange Beach (Ala.) Sportsplex from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.
